Scottsdale Home Community

Home to nearly 250,000 residents, beautiful Scottsdale began as the dream of a U.S. Army Chaplain in 1888. Winfield Scott was impressed with the potential of the Salt River Valley and purchased 640 acres to begin a farming operation. This was the impetus for the development of the “West’s most Western City”.

The early years saw the development of farming and of cattle ranching in the area.
Then, in 1950, the beginning of the advanced technology industry was ushered in to Scottsdale, by Motorola.
In the 1970’s, an influence of artists, architects, and developers brought many of the neighborhoods that are still top names today for their well built homes and upscale shopping and dining. These include Scottsdale Ranch, Gainey Ranch, McDowell Mountain Ranch and D.C. Ranch.

The locals speak of Scottsdale according to the different areas;“South Scottsdale”, from McKellips Road north to Thomas, has quaint older neighborhoods that still bring top dollar, due in large part to it’s proximity to Arizona State University. Professors and students, alike, are seen biking and walking from South Scottsdale to campus. This area, just across the Tempe border enjoys quick access to the new “Tempe Marketplace”( http://www.tempemarketplace.com/index.aspx ) with traditional anchor stores and unique boutiques. There’s a movie theater and great dining options to choose from.

In “Old Town Scottsdale”, we find numerous shops, boutiques, contemporary and Western art galleries. Also, in the “downtown” area, is the upscale Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall (http://www.fashionsquare.com/ ) anchored by Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Barney’s, Dilliards and Macy’s.

The “Central “Shea Corridor” take us from Chaparral north to Shea Blvd. Like all of Scottsdale, lovely neighborhoods with great schools, abound. There is easy access to the 101 and 202 freeways. It’s also a quick jump down to the Scottsdale Airpark, which is a top employment center for the Phoenix metropolitan area. It’s headquarters to more than 30 national and regional corporations. Thousands of visitors and locals, each year, flock to this area for the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction or the Arabian Horse Show.

For newer homes in the Scottsdale city limits, ‘North Scottsdale” is the place. Along with the remainder of Scottsdale and it’s neighbor, Paradise Valley, it’s one of the top ten markets, in the U.S., for luxury homes. The mountain views are especially lovely in Central and North Scottsdale. For the avid hiker, there are many beautiful trails, including those ascending Camelback Mountain. http://www.insider-scottsdale.com/hiking_trails_for_you.htm

It’s hard to mention Scottsdale without talking golf. Pro golf’s “FBR Open” is played each year at the TPC of Scottsdale Championship course. This event brings thousands of spectators, including celebrities and sports stars. There is a golf course for every skill set and every bank account in gorgeous Scottsdale. http://www.golflink.com/golf-courses/city.aspx?dest=Scottsdale+AZ

While homes in Scottsdale tend to bring top dollar compared to her sister cities in the Valley of the Sun, nearly a quarter million folks have decided it’s a worthwhile investment for all this top notch city has to offer.
